Negative Spacegeneral
The empty area around your subject — used deliberately, it gives the subject room to breathe.
Not every inch needs to be filled. Clean, empty areas (sky, water, a plain wall) isolate the subject, set a calm or lonely mood, and give text room in a layout. Place the subject small and off-center against open space for a striking, minimal feel.
Use this when
- Minimal, calm mood: small subject, lots of empty space
- Room for a title/logo: compose with open area
Common mistake: Always filling the frame, so images feel cluttered and tense.
