IBIS (In-Body Stabilization)equipment

Sensor-shift stabilization that steadies any lens you attach, letting you shoot sharp at slower shutter speeds.

In-body image stabilization moves the sensor itself to counteract camera shake, so it works with every lens — even old manual ones. It buys several stops of slower shutter speed for handheld static subjects (it can't freeze a moving subject). Many mirrorless bodies combine IBIS with a lens's own stabilization for even more.

Use this when

  • Handheld low light (static): IBIS helps a lot
  • Freezing motion: Won't help — use a fast shutter

Common mistake: Expecting IBIS to sharpen a moving subject — it only counters camera shake.
