Fast Lensequipment
A lens with a wide maximum aperture (low f-number) that gathers lots of light.
'Fast' means a wide max aperture like f/1.8 or f/2.8 — it lets you use faster shutter speeds in low light and gives more background blur. Faster lenses cost and weigh more, especially zooms.
Use this when
- Indoor/low light, portraits: f/1.4-f/2.8
Common mistake: Assuming a kit f/3.5-5.6 zoom can match a fast prime in the dark.
