Use a moderately slow shutter (e.g. 1/30-1/125), follow the subject smoothly as you press, and keep following through. Done right the subject is sharp against a motion-blurred background that conveys speed.
Use this when
- Cars, cyclists, runners: 1/30-1/125, track smoothly
Common mistake: Stopping the pan the instant you press the shutter.
