A natural field of view50mm — normal
Short focal lengths (16-35mm) take in a wide scene; long ones (200mm+) magnify distant subjects and compress perspective. Focal length also affects apparent depth of field and how near/far elements relate in the frame.
Use this when
- Landscapes / interiors: 16-35mm
- Portraits: 50-135mm
- Wildlife / sports: 300mm+
Common mistake: Shooting portraits at a wide focal length up close, distorting faces.
