Autofocus Modestechnical

Single AF locks focus once; Continuous AF tracks moving subjects.

Single (One Shot / AF-S) locks focus when you half-press — best for still subjects. Continuous (AI Servo / AF-C) keeps refocusing as the subject moves — essential for action, birds, sports. Pair it with a sensible AF area: a single point for precision, a zone for erratic movement.

Use this when

  • Portraits, landscapes: Single AF
  • Sports, wildlife, kids: Continuous AF

Common mistake: Using Single AF on a moving subject and getting a sharp background, soft subject.
